Globe Thistles (Echinops)

Echinops is also recognized as globe thistles. It is a hardy perennial that can tolerate frost and heat and thrive just about anywhere but prefers full sun. It produces blue/purple bristly spherical flowers, flowering in early summer and can last for around 8 weeks and accompanying these lovely blossoms is its distinct spiny foliage. Echinops adds a touch of charm to a cottage garden setting and can grow to around 90cm-120cm and a spread of about 70cm. Excellent for cut flowers.
